UCA presents A Christmas Carol

The University of Central Arkansas presents A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens’ story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey to learn to live a more selfless life. This adaptation of the holiday classic promises “veteran Broadway actors, lush costumes, stunning sets” and wonderful music and dancing, according to the UCA website. The performance begins at 3 p.m. at the Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus. Tickets are $30-$40.… Read more >

Big Jingle Jubilee Holiday Parade returns to downtown Little Rock

The Arkansas State Capitol lighting ceremony finishes with a fireworks display after Little Rock’s Big Jingle Jubilee Holiday Parade in 2009.

The annual Big Jingle Jubilee Holiday Parade returns to downtown Little Rock on Saturday. The parade begins at 3 p.m. at Broadway and Second Street, moves south on Broadway and turns left onto Capitol Avenue, ending at the state Capitol. Cash prizes of $500 to $1,000 in the parade float competition are available for school marching bands and nonprofit organizations.

Following the parade is the official Christmas tree lighting at the Capitol plus a fireworks show. This year’s Grand Marshal is Miss Arkansas 2014 Ashton Campbell.

The winners of last year’s competitions were McClellan Magnet High School (first place) and Central High School (second) in the band competition, and House of Hope Transitional Living Center and Mabelvale Magnet Middle School Band tied for first in the float compeition, with MEMS coming in second.
