If you love outdoor music festivals but you’re not attending Wakarusa this weekend — because, hello, 90-degree temps with chances of thunderstorms — you’ll be excited to know that the other festival on Mulberry Mountain, Yonder Mountain String Band Harvest Music Festival, released its lineup today.
Harvest Fest, which is Oct. 16-18 this year on the same campground as June’s annual Wakarusa, takes advantage of cooler weather and colorful leaves while focusing on a lineup that leans more toward bluegrass, roots and jam.
The festival’s headliners this year are namesake act Yonder Mountain String Band along with Trampled by Turtles, and Railroad Earth, The Jawhawks, Lettuce, The Devil Makes Three, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Tea Leaf Green, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk and Jerry Douglas Band all fall in the next couple of tiers. Other notable acts include The Oh Hellos and Wille Watson (of Old Crow Medicine Show fame), along with Arkansas bands Mountain Sprout, The 1 Oz. Jig and Swamp Bird.
Tickets are on sale now starting at $121 for the weekend. Check out the full lineup … Read more >
What to do in Little Rock with a free weekend and awesome weather?
First up is the Head of the Class Bash at the Clinton Center. Now, if you have children, this might be enticing because it’s something to take the tots to for face painting, bounce houses and whatnot, but also free immunizations and haircuts. Wait. I could use a free haircut… I’ll get back to you on whether or not there’s an age max for those.… Read more >
I usually leave the music previews to Shea, but I just have get a word in when one of my favorite live acts comes to Little Rock. Free tonight and looking for a good show? Please oh please go see North Mississippi Allstars at the Rev Room. If you like folksy, bluesy rock ‘n’ roll that’s kind of jammy and makes you want to dance, then this will be absolutely the most fun you’ve had at a live show in Little Rock in months. Maybe all year. Maybe just since the last time NMA was in town.
This clip is from their last show in Little Rock, a March date (also at Rev Room) which was also being professionally filmed for a live DVD.
Bassist Chris Chew wasn’t touring for health reasons, so that’s Lightnin’ Malcolm filling in. Other two members of the band are brothers Cody and Luther Dickinson — that’s Luther killing it on guitar. Cody’s usually on drums, and then there’s always his electric washboard solo which is pretty epic. WHEW. Every time I’ve seen them it’s been unforgettable and I’m sure tonight won’t be any different.
If you go, let me know in the comments section!… Read more >
