Quick Picks: A Taste for Business, Science After Dark, more

Panera Bread Co., Diamond Bear Brewery, Cantina Laredo and others will gather when A Taste for Business, formerly known as Taste of the Town, visits Verizon Arena to feature more than 30 eateries from 5-7:30 p.m. On the concourse level of the arena, a mix of local restaurants and caterers, national chains, and drink distributors will provide samples, and local businesses will have vendor booths. A $20 ticket — $15 in advance — gets you in the door of this annual food showcase presented by the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce.

The Museum of Discovery hosts another installment of its monthly Science After Dark from 6-9 p.m. With a little help from local breweries, SeptemBEER will present the science of brewing beer. Demonstrations, samples and games will be available during the 21-and-up educational event. Science After Dark also allows adults to experience exhibits within the museum. Entry is $5 and free for museum members. Bring extra cash for drinks and pizza.

The American Taekwondo Association World Expo 2015 begins Friday at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock. The five-day conference is filled with activities, training, tournaments and special events. Friday’s Masters’ Ceremony, held from 8-10 p.m. at the H.U. Lee International Gate and Garden, can be viewed via live telecast at the convention center’s Governor’s Hall. Click here for more information.

Loblolly Creamery and Rock Town Distillery partner to raise money for the Thea Foundation through a Loblolly Ice Cream Happy Hour from 5-7 p.m. Loblolly Creamery, housed in The Green Corner Store & Soda Fountain, will serve sodas, ice cream and floats made with Rock Town Distillery spirits. Ten percent of sales at the happy hour benefits the foundation, and throughout July, ten percent of Loblolly’s Thea Foundation-inspired blueberry pie ice cream will support the foundation, as well.

Disney on Ice: Worlds of Fantasy begins at 7 p.m. at Verizon Arena. The five-day spectacular includes high-speed stunts, an undersea world and more as characters from Disney’s Cars, The Little Mermaid, Toy Story and more show magic on ice as Toy Story toys escape from Sunnyside Daycare and embark on a journey toward home. Listen to stories on motherhood at Listen to Your Mother at Ron Robinson Theater at 7 p.m. The live reading is part of a national series that celebrates Mother’s Day by allowing local writers, storytellers and bloggers to perform original works of various themes about mothers. Ten percent of ticket proceeds will support the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence. General admission is $20. Tickets can be purchased here.
